Before Flip
Slow, scattered communication
As for most large retailers, it’s crucial for PENNY that information reaches everyone clearly and securely. But in practice, it didn’t always work that way.
Before Flip, many processes were analogue or fragmented across different systems. Important information was printed, scanned, or emailed before finally reaching the shop floor. Tools and documents lived in silos, making them hard to find.
Exchanging ideas between colleagues and store managers was also time-consuming. Employees didn’t always know who to contact when they had a question or whether their messages were received. What was missing was a single, digital system that connected everyone – from head office to the shop floor.
'Information and communication helps move us forward. The news stream helps us communicate much more directly about what matters to us at PENNY.'
THE SOLUTION
One digital hub for everything that matters
PENNY introduced the Mein PENNY App to bring clarity, connection, and speed to its daily operations. The app acts as a central digital hub for communication, information, and organisation – one that's perfectly tailored to the needs of employees in the stores.
News Feed – Company updates, podcasts, and internal news delivered in real time, keeping employees always up-to-date.
Employee Directory – Find the right contacts for the right questions, just like in consumer messaging apps (but secure, and without private contact details).
Everyday HR tools – Payslips, training, shift plans, and HR services can be easily accessed in one place, at any time, from their smartphones.
Secure feedback channels – Employees can message the works council directly and confidentially.
)
THE RESULT
Efficiency, transparency, and a real team spirit
Since launching the app, PENNY employees report a step change in communication and teamwork.
Communication is direct, fast and more personal. Updates now reach employees instantly. Store managers can message teams directly – without going through a PC.
Self-service tools have made daily tasks, like checking payslips, viewing shift plans, or completing training, easier and more efficient.
And by making communication more personal and accessible, the app has helped build stronger relationships across stores and teams, and with the head office.
