The Flip Awards 2025 highlight how strategic internal communication and small digital shifts can have a big impact on engagement, collaboration, and operations across a wide range of industries.
Recognising the best in employee empowerment
In the fast-moving world of frontline operations, staying connected and engaged isn’t just a nice-to-have – it’s essential. But the really thoughtful work in this space often goes unnoticed.
That’s why we created the Flip Awards: to recognise the everyday heroes behind the scenes – teams who are genuinely improving how their colleagues connect, collaborate, and work together on the shop floor, in branches, stores, clinics, and warehouses.
These awards are about celebrating what happens when good ideas meet the right tools. They shine a light on smart, practical approaches to communication, helping teams feel informed and heard. Whether it’s through creative communities or tools that simplify daily routines, the Flip Awards highlight what’s possible when you build for the people doing the work.
Introducing the Flip Awards
The Flip Awards 2025 celebrate the best ways teams are using the Flip employee experience platform to boost communication, engagement, and day-to-day coordination. Customers across different industries and regions submitted their most innovative use cases across three categories:
Most Unique Community or Channel
This category recognises teams that have built standout communities within Flip – spaces that bring people together in meaningful ways. Whether it’s through creative content, interactive formats or just making communication feel more human, these winners show how vibrant internal communities can be.
Employee Voice Amplifier
This award goes to companies where listening really matters. These are organisations that create space for ideas and honest conversations, making sure that every voice, from every part of the business, can be heard.
Best Use of the Task Feature
This one’s all about getting things done. It celebrates teams that are using Flip’s Task Management feature in clever ways, making it easier to stay organised, reduce admin stress, and keep daily operations running smoothly.
Each award is split into two business segments – Smart (smaller businesses) and Enterprise (larger organisations) – to reflect the different ways teams work depending on their scale.
Let’s have a look at this year’s winners.
Most Unique Community or Channel
🏆 Enterprise winner: Ortenau Klinikum
Turning hospital communication into community
Ortenau Klinikum is one of the biggest public healthcare providers in southern Germany, with more than 5,000 employees working across multiple hospitals and medical centres. With teams spread out across departments and locations, keeping everyone in the loop was no small task.
Before Flip, internal communication felt a bit scattered. Updates didn’t always reach the right people, and there weren’t many ways for staff to actively take part in the conversation. So, they turned to Flip to make communication feel more personal, more relevant, and more human.
They created a channel that’s built for their team’s everyday reality. Think: short videos, polls, quick updates, and even a bit of seasonal fun. One of their most-loved initiatives is the ‘OK-Osterei 2025’, where staff submitted decorated Easter eggs and the community voted using emojis.
Kristin Seeber
Public Relations & Marketing, Ortenau Klinikum
The impact? Around 60% of their workforce – roughly 4,000 people – use the app actively. It’s not just a communication channel, it’s a community space. And it’s making a difference, as an employee explains: ‘Thanks to the exchange in the app, I quickly got to know new colleagues and feel much more comfortable in the team.’
Their Flexpool team also uses Flip as a virtual station, helping them quickly access information and coordinate more easily.
‘What Ortenau Klinikum has achieved is a textbook example of what great internal communication looks like in healthcare. They’ve taken a complex environment and built a digital space where people feel connected and seen.’
– Lorraine Klingemann, Customer Success Managerin, Flip
🏆 Smart winner: Prechtl Lebensmittelmärkte

Most Unique Community or Channel: Prechtl Lebensmittelmärkte
Learning and team spirit – all in one place
Prechtl is a family-run grocery retailer in Bavaria. With stores across the region and employees working different shifts, the team needed a better way to share knowledge and stay connected without overloading people or adding extra steps to their day.
So, they built a Flip channel that brings everything together. There are training podcasts with external coaches, video-based Advent calendars, competitions, and simple click-through video guides that make learning quick and accessible.
Flip goes beyond training or updates. It's embedded in their culture. Employees use it for holiday planning chats, to celebrate colleagues as ‘Customer Heroes,’ and to share practical info to help each other out.
Christian Gesell
IT System Admin, Prechtl
The numbers speak clearly: with 76% daily active users, 95% monthly active users, and an average post reach of 77%, engagement on the platform is consistently high.
‘Prechtl has created a communication hub that feels both practical and personal. Their ability to blend training, recognition, and day-to-day coordination in one place really shows how Flip can support operational excellence.’
– Steffen Kramer, Customer Success Manager, Flip
Employee Voice Amplifier
🏆 Smart winner: Kreissparkasse Limburg
When everyone has a say
At Kreissparkasse Limburg, a regional savings bank in Hesse, Germany, communication has always mattered. But the team wanted to take it further. When they introduced their ‘S-Mitarbeiter App’ using Flip, the aim was clear: create a platform where communication flows in both directions, not just top-down.
Anita Bueß
Multichannel Manager Executive Board Staff, Kreissparkasse Limburg
Everyone can post, comment, and like. Department heads were encouraged from day one to set up group chats for their teams, which now serve as a core part of daily communication. On top of that, employee feedback has led to the creation of a wide range of channels, from sports and parenting to recipes, local events, and everyday tips.
Importantly, the app also offers a data-protective alternative to WhatsApp, giving employees a secure space to connect without using personal messaging tools.
The organisation also acts on input quickly. When one leader suggested sharing digital tips, a new ‘tips channel’ was launched – now filled with everything from phishing alerts to useful shortcuts.
The 96% onboarding rate says it all – people feel invited, not forced. Flip has helped build a communication culture where employees aren’t just informed but actively involved.
‘Kreissparkasse Limburg has created one of the clearest examples of employee-led communication. When people are given space to contribute, it builds a culture that’s open, engaged, and sustainable.’
– Jamal Simmou, Customer Success Manager, Flip
🏆 Strategic Winner: toom Baumarkt

Employee Voice Amplifier: toom Baumarkt
Company-wide conversations that work
With over 330 stores and 18,000 employees, toom is one of Germany’s leading DIY and home improvement chains. Coordinating communication at this scale isn’t easy, but with toomunity, their employee app powered by Flip, they’ve built a platform where everyone stays connected, regardless of location or role.
In toomunity, all employees exchange ideas, always at eye level. From leadership sharing updates on current topics to colleagues asking questions – the value comes from toom’s collective expertise. What makes the app stand out: everyone can post, comment, and contribute without hierarchy getting in the way.
Daria Ezazi
Head of Corporate Communications, toom Baumarkt
A key feature is the ‘Ask toom’ channel, the most-used group in the app. It’s where employees ask questions, exchange tips, and support each other with practical solutions. Store staff and head office leads alike step in to help, creating fast, collaborative problem-solving.
toom also encourages idea sharing through its built-in ‘Ideas Workshop’, where employees can submit suggestions to improve processes, assortments, or day-to-day routines. Polls and feedback tools provide regular insights to leadership, reinforcing a culture where listening leads to action.
‘toom’s implementation of Flip is a standout case of communication that truly works at scale. Their use of toomunity proves that even in large organisations, real dialogue and collaboration are possible.’
– Sebastian Jäger, Senior Customer Success Manager, Flip
Best Use of the Task Feature
🏆 Smart winner: Straightforward

Best Use of the Task Feature: Straightforward
Making admin easier for everyone
Straightforward is a personnel agency specialising in staffing for events and trade shows with teams in Berlin, Hamburg, and Cologne. With new employees joining regularly and tight timelines to meet, the team needed a reliable way to manage administrative tasks without overloading their managers or letting things fall through the cracks.
To solve this, they turned to Flip’s Task feature, integrating it directly with their backend via API to fully automate the process.
Now, when a new employee requests an evaluation via the Flip app, the responsible team lead automatically receives a task that’s clearly titled and easy to act on. The same applies to collecting documents, such as study certificates from student employees.
Cedric Bleck
IT Infrastructure, Straightforward
The result is a smoother, more reliable workflow. Everything is centralised, visible, and no longer reliant on reminders via emails and scattered communication. As Cedric Bleck explains, ‘Automatically assigning these evaluations as tasks to team leaders is very effective, and I think we can transfer this to other areas as well.’
What started as a solution for onboarding has laid the groundwork for broader automation. With Flip, Straightforward has created a task system that keeps operations efficient behind the scenes, so their teams can focus on what really matters: delivering professional, people-first service in the field.
‘By automating routine tasks, Straightforward makes the most of Flip’s potential. It’s a great example of how small changes can take the pressure off managers and improve daily work for everyone.’
– Jamal Simmou, Customer Success Manager, Flip
