MILES is one of Germany's leading car-sharing providers. Since its foundation in Berlin in 2016, the company has established itself as a major player in urban mobility. Its services include station-independent (free-floating) car sharing, long-term rentals via app and flexible car subscriptions for long-term use.

MILES is currently present in 13 cities. Its diverse fleet, ranging from small cars and compact models to vans, offers the right vehicle for every need.

The company's goal is to create a sustainable alternative to private car ownership. A recent study by the Schreier Institute from 2025 proves that this approach is bearing fruit: according to the study, a single MILES vehicle replaces up to 23 private cars.

Before Flip

Fragmented communication and cumbersome coordination processes

MILES faced the daily challenge of precisely coordinating and informing its operational field staff. The core issues at stake were:

  • Coordination of vehicle cleaning and photo documentation

  • Repositioning strategies for vehicles in more popular areas

Using Flip

Flip as a digital control centre

In January 2024, MILES rolled out the Flip app for field staff as part of a big bang process. A key success factor was the simultaneous introduction of a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policy: employees use Flip on their personal smartphones and receive a monthly allowance for doing so. This solution was fully accepted by the team, as the majority found carrying two phones cumbersome.

Today, Flip is the central platform for communication and task coordination:

  • Daily planning: Regional deployment plans are posted daily in the channel. This ensures a natural 100% usage rate.

  • Documentation: Photos of vehicle conditions or damage are securely stored directly in the chat with a timestamp and licence plate number.

  • System bridge: Direct links to Shyftplan, Personio and the internal wiki bundle all relevant tools.
