Flip Employee App Reviews
How MILES unites its operational team in an employee app
MILES, Germany's leading car-sharing provider, faces the daily challenge of precisely coordinating over 250 operational employees in 13 German cities: from areas of operation and vehicle conditions to local regulations. While the MILES office communicates via Slack, the mobile team uses Flip. MILES has been relying on the employee app since 2024.
Advantages of the Flip app
The challenge
The precise coordination of over 250 personnel in 13 cities was becoming increasingly confusing with conventional messenger services.
The solution
Introduction of the Flip employee app in a ‘big bang’ approach, including a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) strategy.
The result
100% adoption, hardware cost savings, and structured digital communication and documentation.
About MILES
The well-known car sharing provider
MILES is one of Germany's leading car-sharing providers. Since its foundation in Berlin in 2016, the company has established itself as a major player in urban mobility. Its services include station-independent (free-floating) car sharing, long-term rentals via app and flexible car subscriptions for long-term use.
MILES is currently present in 13 cities. Its diverse fleet, ranging from small cars and compact models to vans, offers the right vehicle for every need.
The company's goal is to create a sustainable alternative to private car ownership. A recent study by the Schreier Institute from 2025 proves that this approach is bearing fruit: according to the study, a single MILES vehicle replaces up to 23 private cars.

Before Flip
Fragmented communication and cumbersome coordination processes
MILES faced the daily challenge of precisely coordinating and informing its operational field staff. The core issues at stake were:
Coordination of vehicle cleaning and photo documentation
Repositioning strategies for vehicles in more popular areas
Communication of updates on work processes and regulations
Announcements of company news, team events and the introduction of new colleagues
The previous communication solutions had reached their limits.
Lack of structure: Information was shared in fragmented group chats without clear channel structures or comment functions.
Language barriers: In an international team, manually providing all information in German and English meant an enormous amount of administrative time.
High hardware costs: The management of company mobile phones, SIM cards and the replacement of defective devices became a major cost and logistical factor.
'We didn't just need a better chat app. We needed a system that structures operational communication, makes it transparent and complies with data protection regulations. Flip makes this possible.'
Using Flip
Flip as a digital control centre
In January 2024, MILES rolled out the Flip app for field staff as part of a big bang process. A key success factor was the simultaneous introduction of a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policy: employees use Flip on their personal smartphones and receive a monthly allowance for doing so. This solution was fully accepted by the team, as the majority found carrying two phones cumbersome.
Today, Flip is the central platform for communication and task coordination:
Daily planning: Regional deployment plans are posted daily in the channel. This ensures a natural 100% usage rate.
Documentation: Photos of vehicle conditions or damage are securely stored directly in the chat with a timestamp and licence plate number.
System bridge: Direct links to Shyftplan, Personio and the internal wiki bundle all relevant tools.
'Flip is the structure on which our daily operational coordination is based – compliant with data protection regulations and suitable for everyday use. Without Flip, there would be no posting of deployment areas, no vehicle documentation and no rapid communication.'
Conclusion
Employee apps do not need many functions, but rather those that are relevant to work
Flip brings structure to operational communication with clear channels, integrated translation and direct connection to tools such as Shyftplan and Personio.
Thanks to BYOD, MILES not only saves costs but also increases acceptance.
The scalability, simple UX and open exchange with Flip make the app the solution of the future for everyday operations.
For 2026, MILES is eagerly awaiting the development of its internal wiki as a knowledge base through Ask AI and the native call function announced in the Flip Roadmap 2026.
